Know Before You Go

Learn what to bring—along with a few tips, tricks and more—for your Walt Disney World Resort fishing excursion.

What to Bring

Your guide will provide you with all the gear and tackle you may need during your fishing excursion—including a fishing rod and reel, artificial lures, live bait and non-alcoholic beverages.
Life jackets will be provided and are required at all times for children ages 13 and under. In addition, we recommend that all adults wear a life jacket as well.
Don’t forget to bring protection from the sun, like sunscreen, sunglasses or hats.

Tips, Tricks & More

During your excursion, you will be fishing for largemouth bass. To learn more about largemouth bass—such as their habitats, fishing methods, baits and lures—check out the Fishopedia section on takemefishing.org.
Fish like largemouth bass are largely active in the early morning or later in the evening. They tend to “nap” during the day and may not be as excited to bite.
Practice makes perfect when learning to cast. If you already have a rod and reel, practice casting with it in a large open yard or park before your excursion. Remember: Casting should be a fluid motion, like swinging a baseball bat or a golf club.
Most fish will seek out structure. Be on the lookout for rocks, fallen trees, stumps or points, and cast your line in these areas.
When using live bait, try not to thread the hook entirely through a worm’s body or it won’t be able to move naturally. Instead, thread your hook through a worm in a pleated or zig zag pattern to attract fish.
Pay close attention to the movement and feel of your line. Its takes practice to differentiate between your lure or bait dragging on the bottom and a fish that is actually biting.
Be patient. Patience is the key to a good fishing trip.
